Re: [RML] Glossolepis pseudoincisus, Millenium or Tami River

Large M. boesemani can be aggressive. Just so you know. While G. incisus
would usually be more than a match for dealing with this, my Milleniums are
still quite small and so I don't have any personal experience to rate them
as far as how well they would handle a male Boeseman's in a pissy mood. ;-)
Since Milleniums are supposed to be a fair bit smaller than G. incisus, I
would advise against housing them together unless the Boeseman's you have
are pretty mellow. I know some of the Asian-bred lines have had a lot of the
fire bred out of them, but the line of Boeseman's I have been keeping for
the past decade-plus are no pussycats, and defy the idea of rainbowfish as
peaceful community fish. I have had large males kill other large rainbows,
even in a 100 gallon tank, including fish that *should* handle things fine,
so always use a bit of caution and be prepared to remove any hooligans
before they do too much harm.

A word to the list:
after moving residence one again (I HATE moving!!) I am back online and
working my way through the almost 1000 emails that stacked up in my inbox
while awaiting re-activation of internet services. I am sad to announce that
my 11 year old (or better) Evil Male Boesemani that I got as a gift from
Cary Hostrawser, and whom I've had through times spent in 3 states and
almost a dozen moves, did not survive this last move. Stupid human error and
I should have been there to prevent it, but alas figured someone with over 2
decade's fish experience would know that large rainbows were sensitive to
low O2 levels and should NOT be bagged first. For that matter, so are large
Barullius bakeri and Barbus johrensis. I am still grieving. :-( All other
rainbowfish did fine, but then I was there to move those fish myself. His
son (the fish's) is now taking Papa's place in said 100 gallon tank and is
busy trying to prove that he can kick-butt just as well as the Old Man, even
though he is still only half the size (currently about 3 inches). BTW, the
Old Man in his lifetime murdered about a score of his fellow rainbowfish, so
on this subject I know of what I speak. Many of you on this list have heard
me speak of him over the years, and many of you had a chance to see him in
person. He was quite a looker. For the past 5 or 6 years he was not allowed
to live with others of his kind, and at 3 inches long, Junior had already
been relegated to this same fate. I have a daughter as well. Tho these are a
VERY true-to-type line of Boeseman's, she will not be bred to her brother
again (I do have a small group of wee ones from a prior breeding... in which
he almost killed her BTW!). I have a nice mellow (well, comparatively) male
for her -- maybe their babies will be better citizens...

:-) :-) :-)

I've missed you all. Glad to see the list has picked up some.
