Danny,
I've had good success with picking Olive Rv. gertrudae and Daintree signifer
off with my fingers and dropping them into some tanks that received sun in
the mornings. The resulting "soup" seemed to be beneficial to the fry.
Mind you, blue eye eggs are very large compared to rainbow eggs. I have had
limited success doing something similar with bows. Also there is the time
factor. Blue eyes only lay relatively few eggs per day per mop. But bow
will spray hundreds....very tedious to pick them off.
However in saying that, I had good success with dumping the whole mop into
the same tank that was previously used with the blue eyes. These tanks are
twin 12"x12"x12" with a small box filter. I didn't really worry about the
filter. I used a similar system with outdoor ponds. Only downside is the
dragonfly larvae.
Incidently I haven't had good success with pygmae and have only breed the
more common bows (splendida, tris, ornatus) and a couple of PNG (papua,
bosemani and pierucciae).
Fishes of Sahul have some excellent articles on "how to breed fish XXXX".
Hope this helps
Graeme
