When I collect plants on my trips I try to give some to Dave, some to Lance
and some to Ed Frazer in Brisbane to try to increase the success ratio with
survival. Until recently Ed was not too concientious (mainly because he
couldn;t see the commercial value in them sufficient to allocate growing
space and time and manpower to develop propogation techniques and markets)
however I think recently he has "seen the light".

Lance has always tried to get things going - especially Aponogetons, Myrios
etc and he has done a lot of pioneering on that superb plant Ondinea which
is endemic to the Kimberley. A visit to his place is always a treat as he
dons a wetsuit and mask to show you his plants as he grows them in 8 ft of
water.

Dave Wilson has the persistence and enthusiasm to have a look in every
little gutter and boghole for plants and fish and will doggedly track down
any new plant he hears about until he finds some and gets them to grow so he
can decide whether it is useful or not. I am sure the people at the
Herbarium consider him a "mixed blessing" because he is always asking them
to ID aquatic forms of plants that they usually only see as emersed bog
plants. They usually tell him they can only ID it if he grows it emerse and
gets it to flower - so then he has to keep it alive :-) I'm not sure who
wins?
