screws have a shear strength of 90 lbs. each and are sufficient. Bolts are
overkill. 4 3" galv. deck screws at each joint are fine. 2x4 for uprights
and 2x6 for horizontals would be best and you can span them 8 feet unless
you plan to put a 100 gallon on them but for 10's and 20's it is more than
adequate. I would put lateral braces on the ends (top of back to bottom of
front) and you will be good for life.

Notching is stronger and if you have access to a table saw and dado blades
