Cary and Bruce are right, the fish listed in the Baench is incorrect.
I happen to have a fairly good jpeg of the real algae eater 16 K.
If the group is interested I will attach it to a reply. It shows the
stripe quite plainly going through the tail as it is supposed to.
Every once in a while you can find a shop keeper who doesn't know
what he has (wholesaler too) and the will sell you these fish for
something like .69 cents each.

Just a note about using Baensch to identify this fish. On page 419
neither if the fish shown is the true siamensis. It actually looks
closer to the top fish which is also identified.
