If it is the "Hidden" or "Happy" Valley that is up in the Paluma Ranges
north of Townsville, then this fish is the "Leggetts Burdekin" rainbow.
The system is the Running River which flows into the Star and thence into
the Burdekin north of Charters Towers. There appears to be two distinct
rainbows. Upper river is the "nice" form. Lower Running River (where the
Paluma to Charters Towers Road crosses the Running River) have lots of
"standard" splendida. The difference between the two types are colour and
size. Overall the Running River is a nice spot and the fish are beautiful.
The crossing is quite spectacular with low rocky falls and sandy chases.

Hi Graeme,
Bruce Sambell from Ausyfish (used to be Aquarium Fish
Farms
Of Australia) is breeding them up at his place in Childers. They are
undescribed yet. A few people have seen them and we all have said they look
like something different. Personally, I think they look like they could be
very closely related to M. maccullochi. But I will defer to the taxonomists
when they gettheir hands on it :) They are from a creek called Hidden
Valley
up around Cairns or Townsville way, I can't remember which place Bruce
said.
