Many species of rainbowfish have been distributed via eggs - the eggs are
either picked off the plants or spawning mops and sold in a small vial of
water or alternatively the mop containing the eggs can be gently squeezed
out and transported in a plastic fishbag secured with a rubberband and
protected from extremes of temperature e.g. in styrofoam.
Since the eggs take a week to hatch you have a few days to transport them
before having to put them back in water . The embryos develop inside the
eggs to the hatching stage.
A similar procedure works for blue-eye eggs which can be carried for even
longer since they have a longer hatching time.
