I use Purigen as a replacement for all carbon in my filters... It removes
ALL traces of Nitrate and Nitrite including most added medicines etc...
The cool thing about this stuff is you need only about 100grams for a 100
gallon tank and that should last for 3-6 months. After it completely
exhausts itself you can recharge it with bleach. All I am sure is my large
tanks always test at 0 for both nitrate and ammonia all the time...

I DO NOT use this stuff as a replacement for changing water... I still
change water weekly. No matter how good any product is water is really
cheap and the fish are pretty valuable to me, and I dont mind doing a water
change.
