Chen,
like all of the Australian media and the major parties, The Morgan Gallup
poll have grossly underestimated the growing force of the One Nation Party
and its supporters. They in fact could not be more wrong. The real support
is coming from National Party and closet "League of Rights" members (hardy
blue-collar workers or the unemployed - unless of course they consider
farmers are blue-collar workers). This you will see when the election comes
down in Queensland. I predict that 70% of their vote will come from the
National Party, 20% from the Liberal Party and 10% from the Labour Party.
I will agree with them that some of their supporters are retirees and
certainly most of their supporters would be over 40. You also have an
'unknown factor' consisting of ordinary folk who have become disenchanted
with the normal main stream parties who seem to think that everything will
be Peaches and Cream if One Nation get in (poor souls). I might add my own
personal view in that its not Pauline that you have to worry about - its the
people sitting in the shadows behind her who are the real worry!
Adrian.
