I think one of the biggest problems with Threadfins is dedicating a large enough tank to such a small fish. They will do nicely in community with other small peaceful soft/acid water fishes such as gertrudaes, honeys, tennelus, rhads, mccullochiis, nigran
s, fly-specks, pennyfish etc but they really do best in a school in a species tank so you really need at least 6-8 fish with at least 2 males. the tank should preferably be at least a 36x18Hx15 with perimeter planting and gentle filtration. 100 in a 6 foo
ter is a spectacular sight.
In the wild in the melon-holes you can stand there in water up to your "you-know-whats" and watch the schools of females and juveniles swimming along in the open water past the mature males who are each patrolling their little territory of about 18-24 inc
hes of the edge of the aquatic plant stands and they display like mad in full colour and the females then choose to be impressed or not and condescend to mate and then rejoin the school.
You seldom find werneri acting naturally in water shallower than 18 inches - usually deeper.
