For the sake of the discussion, the albino is a mutation within the framework of the continuing otherwise"normal" genotype - I would think that is very different to a cross, even if that cross is for "scientific" purposes. For me the only purpose for perp

etuating this fish i.e. the albino would be to establish an aquarium strain for commercial purposes.

And I guess there are many who would argue that is probably the only legitimate purpose for aquarists in general.:-)

My understanding is that albinism is one of the commoner mutations but they rarely survive in the wild because they bacome obvious targets for predators, aside from decreased vigour etc

Perhaps we should think about extending our naming system to include such items e.g. melanotaenia papuae (Aquarium - albino) or something equivalent to the gardeners "Hort".
