Hi Danny,

I believe you can put mops into the "mixed" tanks, as I think the likelyhood of such hybrids is almost nil. I have read repeatedly that Bedotia and melanotaenids can interbreed, but have never found any documentation for that. Although sometimes they would engage in behaviour that could be interpreted as mating (at least that's how I saw it in my tanks), but they never actually get to "do it". Also, I believe blue-eye and melano breeding behaviour is very different from each other, and I think neither fish would recognise each other's breeding behaviour and act in consequence (i.e., mate).

If you end up with some blue-eyes/melanotaenid hybrids though, they surely would be easily recognisable as such, and you could cull them easily, or send them to a scientist to have a look at them!

Cheers

Christophe

Hi all, I generally maintain my rainbows 2 species to a tank and pull
out the species that I am working with when it comes time to spawn
them. In a few tanks I have a Melanotaenid rainbow and a Pseudomugil
species. If I was to put a spawning mop directly into that tank is
there any physical ability for there to be produced a
Pseudomugil/Melanotaenia hybrid or can I safelt assume that all blu
eye eggs on the mop will produce pure blue eyes and all rainbow eggs
will produce rainbows.??
What I am trying to do is limit movement of some species that I have
very few of E.G. my sexlineata in with my P.tenellus.
What about I.werneri hybrids?
Thanks in advance
