I put a breeder net into my heavily planted tank with the adults. The net's
mesh is fine enough to keep even the smallest fry inside, while letting
small food flow in with the water movement. Because the plant tank has lots
of light, it also develops various kinds of algae, some of it grows on the
net itself. Some algae types become food for the fry, others become a haven
for rotifer etc. Also, I added a bunch of daphnia into the net, hoping that
the fry will eventually dine on the tiny baby bugs. In addition, I sprinkle
finely ground flake food onto the surface. I can see the little guys
munching on it.
I should say that I raised a dozen or so praecox that way.
