Hi!

I wonder if my rainbows have caught any disease??

I remember a earlier posting about 'snakey' Connieae, and my fishes have something similar.

Two fishes have died from it and now a third is ill (all rainbows). The ill fishes are very skinny and swim as a snake. I can't see anything else unusual. The fishes have died in the last week.

My water test looks ok, pH: 7,5 gH: 8dH kH: 3dH Nitrite: <0.1mg/l. temp: 25 C
I'm adding salt to the water, but it doesn't seem to rise the specific gravity!
I feed them with tubifix once a week, can it be this which causing the problems?
I also have a tank with angels that feeds with the same tubifix, and they look healthy.

The other fishes in the tank looks healthy (a couple of rainbows, M.argenteus and some mollies)!

Please Help!!!

Two things spring to mind - one is wasting from Tuberculosis and is untreatable but Rainbows seem to be particularly susceptible.
The other could be Camallanus (nematode worms) which are quite contagious - look closely at the anus and see if there is any swelling or tiny pink worms hanging out?

Bruce.

I don't have a copy yet but apparently the new genus is "Pelangia" a sister group of Glossolepis. The first species in the genus is P. mbutaensis. Anyone got any more information on this?
