Remind me one day to tell you about a workmate of mine that the Cairns
district Hospital refused to treat because they thought he was drunk when in
reality he was poisoned with an agricultural chemical. If it wasn't for a
farmer sitting in the waiting room he probably would have died.
Then we have people out saving the world while at the same time they spray
their garden with lawn grub killer, selective hormonal herbicides,
pesticides and fertilisers just so they can get out every weekend and mow
the damn grass. Most of these chemicals end up in the drainage system and
eventually in the sea. Agricultural chemicals have their place when used for
farming and under the recommended treatment rates. Without them many people
in this world would starve and its one of the risk factors that we have to
live with everyday. But they certainly don't need to be used in the home garden.
Adrian.
