Hi Larry, does it look like the start of an ulcer? I've seen some with
ulcers on the caudal peduncle ("fleshy" base of the tail) but never in a
line, I guess.

Despite what some of the old bastards on the list tell you about monster
rainbows that live to be 10 years old and grow half a foot long ;) (they do
exist, but are quite rare), 4 years is a pretty good run for the average
rainbowfish in captivity.
