I won't speak for the Qld situation since there are others who are far
more qualified than I to give an updated account. In Victoria there are
sicklids in Hazelwood Cooling Pondage. This is warm water effluent from
a power station. Presently it contains Tilapia mariae (sp?) and
Cichlasoma nigrofasciatum with Tilapia being far more abundant. Other
species have been introduced here but have not persisted. My
understanding is the Qld sicklid species are different. Qld, being so much
better than the rest of Oz, also has several feral populations of other
neat fish like platties, guppies, and swordtails.
