I tried the strategy recommended here of introducing the female just =
before lights out at night. As soon as introduced, the male swam up to =
here and immediately began mating behaviors. After about 5 minutes of =
shadowing her around the tank he began to aggressively poke here until =
she swam to the top corner and gave up trying to elude him. After about =
30 minutes I removed him from the tank.
I introduced the female into the male tank. I think now I will try to =
introduce the male to the females tank just before lights out. If that =
doesn't work I have a new female still in quarantine that is larger than =
the male(s) and hope she can fend them off if necessary.
The Melanotaenias I've bred seem to spawn everyday. Do the Glossolepis =
bows generally spawn everyday or do they have to be "ripe" as I've read =
here?
Any comments/suggestions on breeding these is appreciated.
Bill
PS - thanks for the input on the sale of my bows. Sounds like I'm =
fortunate to get 50% of retail for them. I've told the LFS that I'd =
give him credit for any deaths. He said he likes to buy from locals. =
He said since I bought my fish through him he knows their quality and =
since I live only 5 minutes away he isn't as concerned about losses as =
he would normally be. =20
