I never have understood what the big deal with the snails was anyway. I have planted
tanks and snails and other than large apple or columbian ramshorns don't have
trouble with the snails bothering my plants. I have about every small type of snail
I think, known to the aquarium hobby. When I get too many I pull them out and drop
them in for the botias or my red jewels to munch on. (Nothing eats up snails like a
red jewel-H. lifalili)

It seems like a lot of work and awfully hard on your plants/fish to go through all
these things people go through to get rid of snails. Especially since next time you
put a new plant in the tank you have to go through the whole thing again. I find in
the tanks where there are no snails (the red jewels and botias) I get a lot of nasty
looking algae and diatoms. I've never seen a living natural body of water without
snails they are great little cleaners.
