Still some discussion going on regarding how the Ca gets into the
rainbowfish. Most seemed to think it was absorbed from the water and hence
that was why most seemed to like harder water (160ppm+). Me I just add
coral gravel to the tanks and it gets the hardness and KH up to acceptable
levels. I have been playing witht the "Waters of the World" to increase
the pH, KH, and Hardness. For my Tanganyika pearl killies I have the
hardness about 250-300 ppm, 180 KH and 8.0 pH.
I recall reading somewhere that the addition of CaCl2, without any
additional buffers, would lower the KH value and make the pH of the water
less stable, which is why I have been fooling arround with the WOTW for use
with my P. connieae, P. furcata, P. signifer, and M. bosmani.
