If it is the dreaded Rainbow Ulcer disease, don't do as I did, and leave
the ulcerated fish amongst other healthy fish. I sought advice from a
local aquarium (before the advent of RML) that had a nice display tank of
rainbows, which also happended to have an ulcerated fish in the tank. I
was advised that the ulcer does not spread, but within a couple of months,
that advice proved to be wrong, as 5 other rainbows became afflicted. I
eventually destroyed all these fish, disinfected the tank with bleach, and
started again. I also changed a couple of practices : feeding adult fish
only once a day (fasting the fish once a week) and doing 30% water changes
weekly (instead of fortnightly, as my tanks are fairly heavily populated).
That was about 2 years ago, and I have not had any ulcerated bows since then.
Best of luck.
