I have kept P.furcatus for a number of years. I keep a permanent group in a
180 litre tank. They get 50% water changes every week. I monitor my tapwater
regularly and it ranges from 7.2 - 7.6 pH, gH 90-150 ppm, kH 45-60 ppm. I
never test for nor add calcium to their tank (or any other tanks). All I do
is waterchanges and test the pH to make sure it doesn't drop below 7.0. If
the waterchange doesn't increase the pH I add a proprietry product to raise
it. I have found they do not like acidic water! and I have never had any
spinal deformities in furcatus?
