1. This must be the closest fish in "mentality" to Lemmings as far as mass
suicide is concerned. I usually breed mine each year outside in my pond and
bring them inside for the winter. Unless you block up every little hole in
the cover with filterwool or leave the water level at least 6 inches down
you can lose the lot overnight on to the floor :-(
2. Peacocks must be the easiest to sex of all gudgeons as that little black
line in the anal fin of most of the young females appears at a very small
size
3. No matter how many spawning sites you supply they will spawn on something
that is hard to remove for hatching elsewhere
4.If you are down to 4 or 5 individuals they will invariable end up being
all of the same sex :-(
5. They are probably the most peaceful of all the small gudgeons, the most
colourful and the most breedable. The only one that comes close is
Oxyeleotris nullipora.(But they can still be a pest as far as fin-nipping is
concerned)
