I keep my furcatus in soft water with no salt. In fact I use R.O. water
with only a small amount of electrolyte (Kent Marine RO Right) and Amazon
Water Conditioner. I do use a kH Generator to elevate the pH and carbonate
hardness, but no salt. Perhaps this is not duplicating natural conditions,
but I've had them since May and they seem bright and healthy - and no losses.
