I note that you are the editor of the ANGFA (WA) Newlsetter. I work in the
Fish Health Section of the Fisheries Department based at the Department of
Agriculture in South Perth. Over the last 6 months I have been seconded to
work on policy matters relating to the aquarium fish industry in WA and have
been asked to contruct a management plan for the industry. This will
probably not be done until later this year, however I have been asked to
present an article on 'getting started in aquarium fish breeding' for the
Tropical Aquaculture Association meeting in Kununurra in October. As part of
this talk, I wish to present some facts and figures on native fish breeding
and to that end I am chasing some information from yourself or suggestions on
where to find this information.
The type of information required is
- number of people breeding natives commercially
- number of people breeding natives for export
- average prices for natives -local and export
- your opinion on the potential for expansion
- the species most amenable to aquaculture
- whether or not Australian natives are bred overseas commercially
I hope you may be able to point me in the right direction to access this
information. I understand from your newsletter that there is a mailing list
on the internet. Do you think this information could be gathered through
this means?
