In my experience mellis seems to be able to handle both cooler and warmer
temperatures and will spawn at both extremes. If I remember right I once
tested their natural habitat at 12°C. Also during summer the temp can climb
into the low 30's.
However, daylength definitely has a major effect and you can actually turn
them off and on just by adjusting the light source by covering the tank in
black plastic as mentioned in my last post.
I have always used straight tap water in the following range:
pH 7.2-7.8, G.Hard.90-150 ppm, TDS 190-290 ppm, Alk.45-75 ppm.
