I have seen rainbows with this lock jaw and I think it may be caused by the
fishes feeding frenzy. As you know they will snap up anything and I think
if they take something to big or to hard they can very easily damage their
jaw. I have also observed rainbows that push the base of their jaw out,
sometimes from chasing gravel after a syphon.
Another possibility is they get lock jaw after a big yawn. I have heard
the yawn may have something to do with osmoregulation (probably like we
"click" our ears when climbing up to higher elevations to equalise the
pressure).
