I remember Ginny Eckstein saying to use the cattle wormer stuff, I
guess it was levamisole. I don't know if the ivermectin is also a
cattle dewormer, so it could have been that too. What she did say
though was that most of the "dewormers" on the market kill some of
the worms and others are just badly stunned and slide out into "the
substrate". She suggested treating in a bare bottom tank and
cleaning each day to ensure that you get rid of them. I think the
dead ones etc., that fell out may have had eggs too so if you could
keep the fish from reinjesting them you could break the cycle. She
was pretty insistent upon this and suggested that anything short of
this could lead to another round months later. (she raises mainly
catfish so they are a lot closer to the substrate than bows but you
see bows picking at sh*t on the bottom all the time). Of course with
the fish removed a tank treatment should wipe out anything left in
the tank so that you could reintroduce treated fish later. I guess
the question Dianne is: How long ago did you have this infection and
then following with ivermectin? Please post to the list your
treatment and dosage as this also might be a handy thing to have
around, just in case. Our editor, Kevin Hosmer got these little
creatures in his system a few years back and it essentially wiped out
all of his rainbows. He thought he had them licked and then they
came back with a vengeance.

HI, I had great success with ivermectin eliminating callamanus from
my
fish. I did one round of treatment and the worms have not been
back-and
I didn't do any boiling of gravel or potassium permanganate either.
sooo. I f you need the dose and sequence I will be glad to pass it on
to
you, I got the information from Roy originally.
Good Luck, don't lose any sleep over it -my fish were fine; didnt
lose
one.
