This just corroborates Christopher McLeod's article. But to be more precise,
the "Netsman project" and the "Environmental Education and Sustainable
Livelihood Alternatives project", conducted both, by the Haribon Foundation
and Ocean Voice International are the projects that have trained hundreds of
fisherfolks as my friend Noel Abulag. We have been doing this since 1989, and
it has not been an easy task. We are please with the results but we won't
stop there. Phase III of our project Haribon-OVI, is going to help the hundreds
(500) of fisherfolks that form part of the PMP (Federation of Fish Collectors
of the Philippines) we, with the support of the Canadian government are going
to help setting up new holding facilities in Manila, as well as, improve
handling techniques and holding facilities, which will assure the quality of
Noel's and friends net caught fish. The success of the PMP depends on
satisfaction of fish buyers (importers) in North America, Europe and Asia.
When getting back from the Philippines in June, I'd like to keep all of
you informed about the development of the project.
