National Satellite Videoconference on Source Protection of Drinking Water
Supplies

The Program

The Center for Environmental Research Information of the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency's (EPA's) National Risk Management Research Laboratory, in
cooperation with EPA's Office of Groundwater and Drinking Water, the
National Rural Water Association, and the American Water Works Association
will present a satellite videoconference on May 14, 1997. The program will
air from 1:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. Eastern Time and will be accessible at no
charge to downlink locations nationwide.

This live, interactive videoconference will provide participants with
practical tools for the protection of both ground water and surface water,
drawing on the extensive experience of the sponsoring organizations in
developing source water protection programs. Speakers will highlight the
cost and resource savings that can be realized through prevention of source
water contamination. In addition, issues faced by small systems will be
specifically addressed. The panelists will take questions from you, the
audience, and address your concerns.

The Audience

This videoconference will be useful for utility operators, engineers,
regulatory officials, planners, representatives of watershed associations,
and academics.

How You Can Participate

You can bring this satellite program to your community by coordinating a
downlink site. We have prepared a free kit explaining everything you need
to know about coordinating a downlink site, including:

how to identify and reserve a downlink facility
how to publicize the event (sample promotional flyer and press release
included in the kit)
how to work with the technical contact at the downlink site
how to register attendees and respond to caller inquiries

The kit also provides guidance for coordinators who wish to incorporate the
satellite program into a larger local or regional event. We encourage you
to network with associated organizations in your area and explore the
possibility of co-sponsoring an event with them. For more information about
the technical program and organizing a larger event, contact Dr. James E.
Smith, Jr., of CERI at EPA/NRMRL, 26 W. Martin Luther Kind Drive,
Cincinnati, OH 45268; tel: 513-569- 7355; fax: 513-569-7585; e-mail:
