Original message:
<I am growing native wetland plants for restoration projects in Ontario, Canada.
Part of my market includes gardeners who want to naturalize their backyard
ponds. I am interested to know if there are a few types of native
freshwater fish that may be appropriate for backyard ponds (replacing the
exotic goldfish). Any suggestions would be appreciated.>

Thank you for the responses to my original question.

I have recieved several suggestions:
Fundulus diaphanus - banded killifish
Leposmis gibbosus - Pumpkinseeds (sunfish)
Pimephales promelas - Flathead minnows
Umbra limi - Mud minnows
Culea inconstans - brook stickleback

Know I was wondering if anyone has information on the habitat requirements
for these fish (e.g. temperature requirements, oxygen, food...)?

Also, information on where I might be able to obtain suitable breeding stalk
for this bioregion and information on rearing these fish.

I need to know this information so that I will be able to choose a suitable
set of species to put into a small pond environment (typically 3' deep x
4'x6' - subject to a wide variation in temperature and oxygen levels).

My thanks in advance

Paul Morris
