Napoleon wrasse (Chelinius undulatus). I am preparing a paper on ecology
and behaviour based on a small population that we have studied in detail.
The species is on the IUCN Red Data List, is being considered for CITES and
is regionally extinct as a result of the live fish trade. Unfortunately
there are almost no references on the species and we have searched
extensively. Any information, from "I saw a few on this reef" or "juveniles
were common in timbukto" to unpublished reports would be very gratefully
recieved. We have been told by reliable sources in the GBRMPA that they
form spawning aggregations, yet our population don't appear to mass spawn.
Has anyone seen spawning elsewhere in the world? Have any aquaculture
facilities managed to get them to spawn?
please reply direct to me and I will summarise findings and info for the list.
regards & thanks
steve
