"Fishlink" is an Internet fisheries information and news service linking fisheries scientists, organizations and fishing associations (both commercial and recreational), as well as folks working on fisheries protection issues generally from conservation organizations, agencies and Tribes. Our focus is primarily on fisheries habitat conservation and restoration information from throughout North America (including Canada), the North Pacific and North Atlantic, though we do cover fisheries news from other regions. We also try to keep the fisheries information we send you relevant and timely.
Fishlink is a moderated information network organized as a news service and NOT another open-ended listserver. Postings can only be done by the Editor. All information is screened and edited and no commercial solicitations of any kind are allowed.
This network is sponsored and maintained by the Institute for Fisheries Resources (IFR), and the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Associations (PCFFA). PCFFA is the largest organization of commercial fishermen on the US west coast and is a federation of 25 different fishermen's associations participating in every commercial fishery from San Diego to Alaska. The Institute for Fisheries Resources, founded by PCFFA in 1982, works primarily on the protection and restoration of west coast salmon and other marine resources, including the protection and restoration of their habitat. For more information about these two organizations and their many conservation programs, as well as for many useful links to other fishery protection organizations and resources, refer to our Web pages at:
PCFFA: <http://www.pond.net/~pcffa> Institute: <http://www.pond.net/~fish1ifr>
In addition to special alerts, joining Fishlink gives you "Fishlink News," an electronic newsletter co-published by PCFFA and the Institute for Fisheries Resources. This email newsletter provides a summary of current and useful information related to the conservation and restoration of Pacific salmon and other fisheries. We hope to bring you the most current information you need on these issues, plus lists of useful resources on the Internet, plus analyses of issues which affect both inland and marine fisheries and the environment which supports them.
As fishermen we are the stewards of the fisheries -- it is up to us to take the lead in protecting our irreplaceable biological resources. This is one way we can work together to do it.
Membership in Fishlink and a subscription to our on-line newsletter is free. In addition to Fishlink News we also publish a regular hardcopy newsletter designed for fish-activists, called "The Friday," which comes out by first class mail at least once a month. If you would like to subscribe to "The Friday" as well, please feel free to do so for $35/year, sent with your name and subscription mailing address to PCFFA Northwest, PO Box 11170, Eugene, OR 97440-3370.
If you have news items or articles for this newsletter related to west coast salmon or other fish/environmental issues, we welcome them. However, space and time are limited so all submissions are subject to editing. They should be e-mailed to us at: <owner-fishlink at pond.net>
in ASCII (DOS) format -- the most universal format for e-mail. Please include your name and e-mail address so that both we and our readers can contact you for more information on the subject.
We hope you find this information useful.
