Some people may think Roy is charging a lot of money for his fish.
I don't think so. I've done the math. I've looked at importing fish from
OZ etc. It's very expensive. And I think wild fish are worth a premium
That still doesn't mean that because they're fair value that I can
afford
to buy all I want. I think the National organization could afford to
buy some fish and parcel them out to it's "designated breeders" with
the understanding that they get them "out there".
No slight intended to anyone because although I think I'm a fairly
competent breeder NOW,
I wasn't always that way, but it just seems to me that if we can agree
that the mission here in NA is to distribute and maintain the species
we have, then those people who have shown that they can breed and
DO DISTRIBUTE the fish are deserving of some sort of assistance in
obtaining the new species so that they can do what only they have shown
a willingness or ability to do. Nobody is making any money from this
so don't think it's some kind of free ride I'm proposing. I really think
that if we are going to distribute and maintain these fish then they
have
to be put into the hands of those who are doing the job. That allows for
new people who improve their breeding skills to join in as well. If just
the well heeled obtain the fish, then many species are going to be lost.
Besides if the national organization bears the cost then, this would
allow the breeder to sell fish and eggs at a lower cost.
With all that's going on in Australia does anyone think that it's wise
to let a species vanish from NA?
