Bedotia geayi (spelled correctly) is one of the three Bedotia species we are
breeding in Germany today. It is the most common and can be bought in
many of the larger shops as it is bred commercially in South East Asia.
It was one of the first atherinid fishes bred in Germany and in the 50s and
60s more populat than today.

However, breeding is very easy. The fish can be sexed rather easily not only
by colour but also by the length of the dorsal and anal fins (males much longer).
Fish start to breed at about 7 cm but more eggs may be received from 10 cm up.
They reach 15 cm at largest. They seem to be related rather closely to
rainbowfishes and like them permanent breeders. The spawn a handful of eggs
every day and the fry hatch after about 7 days. It's also possible to crossbreed
Melanotaenia and Bedotia - but don't ever do that ;-) The fry can be raised
like rainbows also with finest flake food (e.g. Sera Micron here in Germany).
