I notice at the heading of that paper that this fish has been included in
the family Melanotaenioidei.
Would it be possible for you to know when this was done and if you know when
it happened. I would like to obtain a copy of the paper.
The Australian Government has a huge bureaucracy concerned with stopping us
having New Guinea fish. At the moment the Minister for the Environment has
publicly announced we can have G.incisus after three ears of assessments by
two fisheries scientists. The Agriculture public servants say it is a big
disease risk even though it has been here in the country since 1960's.
They will have the quarantine officers seize any at the border if somebody
imports them.
The reason they give is that the family Melanotaenioidei has never been
assessed by them for disease. The Madagascar Rainbows are an allowable
import so if the family they belonged to in 1999 has been assessed then it
could be assumed they have assessed Melanotaenioidei by proxie. I know
they probably wont accept this but if you could tell me where I could find
the science for this family change I would be very grateful. We will send
it to them and say they have assessed rainbows.
The big question is when did the family Bedotiidae become Melanotaenioidei.
If you have an electronic copy of the paper I would be very pleased to
obtain some evidence to convince the Government that they have already
fulfilled their own set of rules.
If it is the Sparks and Smith paper of 2004 that changes the family then you
have referenced that paper in your very nice Fishes of Sahul paper on
Madagascar Rainbowfishes.
Sparks, J.S. & Smith, W.L. (2004a) Phylogeny and biogeography of the
Malagasy and Australasian
rainbowfishes (Teleostei: Melanotaenioidei): Gondwanan vicariance and
evolution in freshwater.

Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers
