Hi Danny,
This fish was first introduced to the hobby about 12 years ago by Ray =
Legget. The original fish and by far the best come from a trib. of =
Burdekin R. called Running R. The fish you collect from Hidden valley =
appear to be a mix of this form and the normal splendida type. You catch =
both types and a less colourful fish which looks like a hybrid of both, =
whilst in the Running R only the new type is found, at least at all the =
sites I have collected at. I have also collected this fish in other =
tributaries of the Burdekin, although Idon,t think they are quite as =
good as the originals. AFAIK no one has yet finished any taxonomic =
research on this fish. I know Qld Uni got some specimens for the genetic =
work they were doing but I don't think it is completed yet. I hope this =
helps.
