Hey Bruce,
those Running Rv. splendida and the Valley of Lagoons splendida have
very similar striping on their flanks, ie/ 3 black, 1 gold, 1 black.
Body shape is slightly different and the Valley of Lagoons fish are
bigger with larger finnage. But the patterning appears to be common.
Also the Valley of Lagoons fish have similar although more muted
colouration as the Running Rv. spp.
Also downstream from the collection site on the Running Rv. (incidently
according to your photo presentation we collected at the identical sites
<g>) where the Charters Towers road crosses the Running Rv. you can
collect the RRv. form and also a more bland rainbow that grow
significantly larger. The RRv form collected in the shallower placid
pools, while the larger rainbow collected in the deeper pools that also
had more current in them. The larger 'bow were 4-5" in length and
appeared similar to a "stock" splendida (stripes on body, yellow fins).

Also we didn't sample at Happy Valley. Had a look around but there
wasn't any "nice" places to drop the net into.
