National Park in Australia's remote north would be almost totally
transformed into mangrove forests by a sustained one-meter rise in the sea
level.

Huge loads of sediment brought on by predicted increases in rainfall would
also be dumped onto areas such as the famed Great Barrier Reef off
Australia's northeast coast.

The Herald said the report emphasised uncertainties in climate change
predictions.

"Climate models project that the mean annual global surface temperature
will increase by between one degree and 3.5 degrees centigrade (2.25 and 8
degrees Fahrenheit) by 2100 and that global mean sea level will rise
between 15 and 95 centimetres (six and 37 inches)," the report said.

Australia, one of the world's largest coal exporters, has opposed strict
targets for international reductions in greenhouse emissions. At 11:40 AM
