The bottom line is, if people don't want the spam, they shouldn't read any
messages titled "SPAM", otherwise those of us who bother to use the SPAM
header are wasting our valuable time. This is why we encourage people to
use the SPAM header when being chatty.
By the same token, nobody should be made to feel less than adequate if they
forget to use the SPAM header - this is, and was created to be, a list for
keepers of the fishes of Sahul - NOT to be strictly about the keeping of
them. Nothing is offtopic here but that the members of the list
overwhelmingly decide that it should be so... nothing is stopping people
leaving to start their own lists, nothing ever has stopped them in the past.
