Yes I agree we certainly do have to clean up our rainbow naming act. I
guess it comes down to the scientists and that could mean a possible lack of
funding for research or as in some cases personal pride. I have heard of
scientists being reluctant to describe a fish they personally didn't
discover. I'm not sure if that is the case this time but whatever, we have
to lift our game...
As for nobody knowing where it came from well this is not quite the case. I
was on hand when the fish arrived in Canberra and was one of the "chosen
few" to view the hatchlings and their subsequent growth and I am good
friends with the person that brought them in. And no I still do not have
any...but then again I have not asked either. The fish came in as eggs from
Europe and the egg source in this instance was a well known European
hobbyist and breeder. It is certainly not a hybrid or line bred variety. I
won't say more than that even under threat of torture :-)
Neil Armstrong has the fish for photography purposes and I guess he has some
fine piccies by now. Over the next few months I will endeavour to obtain a
slide for inclusion on our (ANGFA ACT) web site. Our site is currently
being improved/revised/updated but the old version is still on line. I hope
that we can all soon agree on a correct name - description.
I have just noticed that others on this list have replied and all in a
similar vein to mine. :-) There you go <g>
