(Banging my head against the wall) So What Gary!! :-) The fact is the blocks
work better than the shell grit and I dont care why! When it comes to raising
fish I want to raise the best quality I can. The blocks help me do that and do
it well. So if you want to know why or what is the reason play Dr. Frankenstein
and let us know. Perhaps write an article for the RSG! :-)

As far as water changes go and dropping the hardness slightly, how do you know
the gills are affected? I have seen no ill affect in my fish doing water changes
with softer water. If your water is 200 ppm and you remove 1/5 of it and
replace it with water that is 100 ppm the end result is somewhere around 180
ppm, a drop of 20 ppm well I call it raining in the pond. :-)

de solve ( prefix signifying separation, to loosen, release also dissolve....)

I think its like saying fortnight here in the US Gary we dont use it anymore!!
:-)
