Scats are from 2 genera Stephen - Scatophagus and Selenotoca and are found
from E' Africa across to SE Asia and northers Australia. They seem at home
in marine waters as adults but brackish and fresh as juveniles. They eat
anything, including thread algae and usually need to be fed almost
continuously to keep them growing.
Varying the salinity every few weeks will keep them healthier for longer
than trying to maintain them in purely FW.
Have a look at the Brackish article in Adrian Tappin's home Page.
