Neon tetras are not a figment of imagination. I collected them from
Bam Bam Springs in Queensland.
Your allusion to blue-eye steaks may confirm what most biologists
are aware of: that common names may refer to any group of fishes
depending on locality and common use. For example, deep sea trevalla
is also sometime referred to as blue eye and big eye, very edible
fish, occurs in southern states and is large enough to be put on a
plate.
