Thank you Barry - perhaps this is the most important mechanism of all in determining the general characteristics of any tribe i.e. the attributes ( and this includes the behavioural rituals) of the male which attract a receptive female and consequently a

llow mating and reproduction of the species with perpetuation of the genes of the two parents. The population scientists/geneticists can tell us all about the various processes involved but my understanding is that it is the similarities and minor differ

ences, not major differences that promote attraction.

Certainly major differences can make for an obvious target for predators and therefore failure as a member of the school.It's pretty hard to pass on your genes when you are being digested.
