>Shall we start a discussion on the recommended method of maintaining a
captive population of a fish species for conservation purposes especially a
Blue-eye or a Rainbowfish?
I think we need the practical services of a geneticist to draw up some sort
of breeding program that we all can follow otherwise we will be running
around like a chook with its head cut off!
Perhaps we can conscript Craig Moritz from UQ, at least he has done some
work with Rainbowfishes. I don't think we need any theorists putting forward
their theories on relativity.
As for the practical aquarium side, I have raised a couple of Blue-eye
species over a ten-year period through many generations and have not noticed
any colour or body changes. I also think blue-eyes are not as prone to
genetic drift as are Rainbowfishes. (How's that for some theory!)
