[RML] Should I feed my fish prunes? ;)

Hi all,

I have a boring fish question. That's not to say I
have boring fish (thought I'd have to pre-empt the
obvious comments), but rather boring after discussions
of swamp dogs, gator's, and their diets.
I keep praecox Rainbow's, neon, gold and lamp-eye
tetra's, with the usual assortment of cleaning crew.
It is a well planted tank without C02. Lately I've
been having some huge pH swings though all other water
conditions are perfect. I normally struggle to keep it
below 7.2, however lately it's been diving to 6.5'ish.
I can handle the water quality problem, but I wanted
to know if this would have any affect on the Rainbow's
inability....for want of a better term...."to snap off
a length"? One male had the problem, now a female is
doing the same. Maybe she thought it was a good look!
A novel and interesting attempt at attracting a mate
perhaps....but I doubt it. It really is distracting to
sit and relax in front of the tank while these two
drag around last weeks dinner whilst the rest think
it's today's. Only the Rainbow's seem affected. They
primarily eat good quality flake food with a
fortnightly treat of frozen blood worms. I'm resisting
the temptation to throw in some meta-mucil!
Is this problem dietary, or could the fluctuating pH
be the cause? Any suggestions?

Thank-you,

Rob
Brisbane
