>>I currently keep around 15 tanks (I used to keep more) ranging in size
from 7' x 20' x 20' down to 8" cubes for fry.<<
I counted my tanks after this and I have 21 that are 10 gal and over and 24
under. No filters, most are well planted though some are kind of sparse.
Some of my cichlids trash the plants a bit.<g>
>>I do however collect plants and enjoy
growing them.<<
I wish there were good places to collect plants here. Even the ones I find
are usually jsut bog plants and I would have to say I've been pretty
unsuccessfull with them so far. I do know where there are a few in a creek
an hour or so from me. I want to go collecting up there again, I'm just
waiting for Julie to get a day off to come with me.<g>
>> My main display tank has a
substrate of laterite, peat moss and is then topped off with 3-4" of 3mm
gravel. The plants thrive in this tank. I sometimes add C02 on a daily
basis but am currently not using it as an experiment. So far I have noticed
no difference!!!<<
I don't add CO2 at all. I tried laterite on a couple tanks I set up last
year and I didn't see any marked improvement in plant growth.
>>As for losses - my losses
are certainly more than one. Anybody who can raise 'bows and only lose one
is a Goddess to me <g>
How many Lake wanams do you have? It is a fish I dearly wan't but it is not
commonly available at this point in time. Certainly no one in Canberra has
them at the moment. :-(<<
Well there were 6 young ones to start and 5 made it to adulthood. I gave one
of those to Julie so now I have 4 adults. There were only 9 eggs that
hatched so losing one was still more than 10% of the batch.<g> Most of the
eggs were infertile and turned white in 24 or so hours. I assume there will
be a lot more fertile eggs as the fish mature. I don't know what the rules
all are, can I send you eggs there? I thought you could not send fish but
could send eggs. I have traded fish last year with a fellow in N.Ireland and
had no trouble at all. I'm sure I could get more eggs from them than I
possibly have room to grow, if the legalities work out and you are
interested in a trade e-mail me privatly.
>>I never never never read the pH of my water and i don't test the water for
anything either. This drives some fellow aquarists nuts (I have a talent
for doing that to people and it's a talent I don't have to work on. You may
have noticed this, but I honestly mean no harm) <G> I am probaly one of the
lowest tech (but enjoy moderate success) breeders in the world. I am not
bragging here it's just a simple fact. Most ANGFA members acknowledge
this... I even have fellow members who insist on testing my water when they
visit. My water is always perfect and this really has them baffled. It
gives them the shits too. <g> I think it is because I change at least 20%
of the water every week.<<
Well I don't know if you are lower tech than mine, I don't know if I qualify
as a breeder though since I'm only breeding a 15 or so fish. (Don't tell but
most of them aren't rainbows, I need to trade for some more.<g>)
>>Now I could go on about feeding etc, but I charge heavily for the info I
give out <g> ;)
I will work out a special price for the info I have just given you. Infact I
will leave my reward up to you. ;) If you wan't to know about feeding then
that will be an added extra!!! :-)<<
Hmm, well I don't really have a problem with feeding since I got these nice
vinegar eels from Peter and this nice OSI APR stuff from Julie.<g> Thanks
anyway. As for rewards for the information, well, I have mentioned I do
cook, I could make you dinner and send it to you. It shouldn't be too moldy
by the time it got there.<evil grin>
