I haven't kept P. cyanodorsalis since 1989 however these are the range of
water conditions that I have recorded in my diary. I tried various
conditions (added salt) to see what suited them best. I have to admit though
that I never really noticed that much difference between the various
results? I first obtain them in 1982 but never bred them at the time - the
males developed some form of growth on their mouth and later die. I obtained
further stock from the collection of Ray Leggett and Graham Heidke when they
did the Kimberley and NT trip in 1986, and maintained this line until 1989.
You can't keep everything ;-) Note the Conductivity figures which reflects
the added salt or no added salt.

1. (Spawning) pH 8.05, Temp. 27°C, Con. 26.5 mS. (Raising) pH 8.5, Temp.
25.9°C, Con. 22.7 mS.
2. (Spawning) pH 8.5, Temp. 26°C. (Raising) pH 8.4, Temp. 27°C, Con. 0.55
mS, TDS 290 ppm, G.Hard 140 ppm.
3. (Spawning) pH 7.7, Temp. 27°C, Con. 3.1 mS. (Raising) pH 7.1, Temp. 26°C,
Con. 0.55 mS.
4. (Spawning) pH 8.03, Temp. 25°C, TDS 230 ppm, Con. 560 uS, G.Hard 120 ppm.
5. (Spawning) pH 8.0, Temp. 21°C, TDS 230 ppm, Con. 502 uS, G.Hard 130 ppm.

At times they were even maintained in water with a pH of 6.0 - 6.5 without
any visible signs of distress and for general maintenance they were
maintained in ordinary Brisbane tap water, neutralised to remove chlorine.

For those interested this was the analysis of "Brisbane" tap water at the
time. These records cover 2 years, represent a large number of tests and
show min-max levels. Also a note for other Brisbane readers - Not all
Brisbane water is the same it depends on where you live in Brisbane!
