My first contact with southland ragarding the shrimp they sell as the
chinese grass shrimp, which is what amano calls them, were the ones that
were good at controlling algae. i've put some of these in my tanks and they
did a good job at eating the algae off the plants. they get about 2 inches
and live a lot longer than do the ghost shrimp, which are annuals, im pretty
sure. but i cannot guarantee that they are the j. cardina because southland
couldn't produce a scientific name for me.(i asked a while back about them
and the bumblebee shrimp, which bruce hansen was wondering about, too.)

i'll give them a call tonight and see if i can find out anything.

I don't know if it's all hype or what but, Amano claims that after trying
different species, these Japonica cardina were the most effective at algae
control.
